Changes to USC Email and Google Workspace – Alumni

Alumni and Former Student Account Access

To mitigate cybersecurity and data privacy risks and to comply with licensing agreements, the University of Southern California is no longer able to provide Google Workspace, which includes Gmail (@usc.edu) for University alumni and former students (attendees). While this change is needed, we acknowledge that our alumni and retirees are important members of the University community, and we recognize that this change may cause disruption. Our plan is intended to balance support for our community with risks and requirements to comply with laws, policies, and agreements for security, privacy, and licensing.

As you will be losing access to your usc.edu account, we recommend you begin transferring and reviewing account data as soon as possible. You should take time to update your accounts, subscriptions, memberships, and contacts. We also suggest you review and download or transfer the personal emails, contacts, and files you want to keep to a different account.

Alumni who graduated August 2023 or before and Former Students

Alumni who graduated in August 2023 or before and former students who did not graduate will lose access to their USC (@usc.edu) account soon. Please begin transitioning ASAP.

Students who graduated in December 2023, or those graduating in May and August 2024

  • Alumni who graduated in December 2023 or students who will graduate in May and August 2024 will have one year before their USC account is deactivated.
  • All graduates thereafter will also have a year after graduation before their USC account is deactivated.

NEXT STEPS

  1. You can request an Alumni Gmail Account (@alumni.usc.edu) following your degree conferral. To learn more about your alumni email options, visit https://alumni.usc.edu/faq/#email.
  2. Your Google email, drive, and account are linked. Visit Google Migration Tools for help migrating your data before it is gone forever.
  3. It is important that you change all accounts, logins, and contacts (e.g., utilities, Facebook, subscriptions) that use your USC email to another personal email.
  4. For other applications — such as Oasis via myUSC — please download your data before access is removed.

What we’re doing

To help keep alumni and retirees on track for a smooth transition and to ensure they have the support they need, we will send reminders to alumni and retirees with helpful links to access tools and request support.
