For Users Sending Slack Connect Invitations
Slack Connect allows you to invite external collaborators to specific Slack channels. Follow the steps below to send an invitation and ensure proper approval:
A. With Permission to Post Only
What This Allows:
- External users can post messages in the channel.
- They cannot use workflows or apps.
- They cannot invite their coworkers.
Who Can Send Invitations:
Everyone except guest users.
Steps to Send an Invitation:
- Open your Slack workspace.
- Navigate to the channel where you want to invite external users.
- Click on the channel name > Settings > Invite People.
- Enter the email address of the external user(s) and select “Permission to post only.”
- Click Send Invite.
B. With Permission to Post, Invite, and More
What This Allows:
- External users have full access to the channel.
- They can use workflows and apps.
- They can invite their coworkers.
- They retain a copy of the channel history after the collaboration ends.

Steps to Send an Invitation:
- Open your Slack workspace.
- Navigate to the channel where you want to invite external users.
- Click on the channel name > Settings > Invite People.
- Enter the email address of the external user(s) and select “Permission to post, invite, and more.”
- Click Send Invite.
Important Step: Notify Your Workspace Admin for Approval
After sending the invitation, contact your workspace admin to inform them of the request. They will review and approve the invitation to complete the process.
For Workspace Admins Approving Slack Connect Invitation Requests
Workspace Admins play a key role in managing Slack Connect requests for their specific workspace. The approval process ensures secure and efficient collaboration.
Approval Process:
Workspace Admins are notified when a Slack Connect invitation request is submitted. They can review and approve or deny the request directly in their workspace.
Steps for Workspace Admins to Approve Requests:
- When a Slack Connect invitation request is sent, you will receive a notification in Slack.
- Click on the notification or navigate to Admin Tools > Slack Connect Requests within your workspace.
- Review the request details, including:
- External organization name
- Channel permissions requested
- Email addresses of invitees
- Click Approve to grant access or Deny to reject the request.
Managing Existing Connections
Workspace Admins can also review and manage existing Slack Connect channels via Admin Tools > Connected Channels.

All invitation requests are sent directly to individuals with the ability to manage Slack Connect (Org and Workspace Admins/Owners).
